Abstract:

Changes in seed dormancy were selected during the domestication of crop plants from wild-plant species, because some features of dormancy that provide ecological advantages presented agronomic disadvantages within a farmed system. Seed dormancy varies widely among seed batches, even for seeds of the same genotype, indicating large environmental influences. For genetic studies, it is essential to obtain such quantitative data on seed material without the effects of variation in environmental conditions, including the maternal growing and seed storage conditions. The genetics of seed dormancy is as predicted on Mather's theory of genetical architecture for a character that has been subject to strong directional selection. Many studies on the genetics of seed dormancy regulation have concluded that dormancy is a quantitative trait controlled by multiple loci that affect different seed tissues, and often different aspects of seed physiology. Therefore, in this study discos on some research on seed dormancy control by genetic.

A STUDY ON ULTRASTRUCTURAL ASPECTS OF SEED DORMANCY IN WILD OATS

The structural differences between  dormant and nondormant seeds of wild oats (Avena ludoviciana Durieu) were studied by light and transmission electron microscopy. Radial elongation of  scutellum epithelial cells were observed in nondormant seeds after imbibition, compared with dormant seeds in which cells were completely compressed. Ultrastructural differences for example, dilution of cytopla...

Molecular aspects of seed dormancy.

Seed dormancy provides a mechanism for plants to delay germination until conditions are optimal for survival of the next generation. Dormancy release is regulated by a combination of environmental and endogenous signals with both synergistic and competing effects. Molecular studies of dormancy have correlated changes in transcriptomes, proteomes, and hormone levels with dormancy states ranging ...

A STUDY ON SEED GERMINATION OF AVENA LUDOVICIANA AND THE EFFECTIVE FACTORS IN SEED DORMANCY BREAKING

Wild oat has two seeds in a spikelet that they have different physiological behavior in regard of  seed germiantion. The upper seed of spikelet is smaller and has deeper dormancy than the lower seed. The range of temperature for germination is  5˚C  to  25 ˚C  and optimal temperature is 15˚C. Both kinds of seeds showed the more  germination rate in low temperatures so that 5 and 10˚C are better...
